LG Energy Solution, the new name forLG Chem’s battery business, released today its new line of lithium-ion batteries: LG RESU Prime. This new family of residential battery solutions have a maximum of 16 kWh of energy and a power rating of 7 kW.
What’s more, the new generation of LG RESU batteries boast modular designs, allowing for streamlined transportation, handling and installation, in addition to simplifying on-the-spot maintenance. The full LG RESU Prime lineup includes:

- LG RESU10H Prime –An ideal option for a first home battery, RESU10H Prime features enough capacity to back up critical loads during peak hours and emergencies, offering 9.6 kWh of usable energy which can be scaled up to 19.2 kWh, with the double power of 10 kW. (Available March 2021)
The LG RESU Prime line also features RESU Monitor, LG Energy Solution’s advanced remote monitoring system, enabling installers and users to remotely monitor battery conditions in real time and arming installers to proactively diagnose any issues with an easy-to-use interface.

I’m beginning to think, the way IOU utilities have (chosen) to maintain their regulated monopoly revenues is to implement electricity rate spiking programs like block electricity tiered rates, TOU rate spiking after the solar PV generation day is done, “demand charges” to spike rates to take care of spinning reserve contracts with fueled generation facilities. The trends particularly over the last 5 years has been offering larger energy storage capacity seems to be the next trend. At first it was TESLA and 7kWh with 5.6kWh usable. Now entities like Humless Universal and Electrique have offerings one can stack energy storage up to 70 to 90kWh. This is getting into the commercial energy storage arena. I can see a couple of things happening, commercial ESS manufacturers scale down and offer a 25kWh interactive inverter product at 240VAC residential with commercial sized battery pack and get a system of 25kW/100kWh for a large home system that would allow one to become grid agnostic. The other thing that could happen is taking an existing commercial ESS and add a 460-480 three phase to 240VAC split phase transformer to power a home or small business. Recently Sonnen, GENERAC, and now LG Chem RESU Prime is offering more capacity. Then the up coming RESU Flex. It also seems battery prices are still dropping, not as much as solar PV has dropped, but goo enough to allow more capacity in the residential ESS offerings. I would think the rote utilities are crying and writhing over the prospect the utility could soon become backup to residential renewable systems.
